Our Commitment

At Affinity we have a firm compromise guaranteed by our code of ethics which guarantees our active contribution to the humane treatment of all animals and the improvement of their health and wellbeing. Our efforts go beyond obeying current laws, whose observance is of course a given. In this sense, our corporative social responsibility rules gather all the actions that we as leaders of this sector implement strictly as we develop our activity.

Affinity Petcare S.A. ethics code about animal caring and handling

Fundaments

Humane treatment of all animals under the care of Affinity Petcare and our collaborators, goes beyond our ethical compromise, it is our business philosophy..

Our activities in Affinity Petcare are based on enhancing animal and human health, well being and comfort, respecting four basic principles of animal zootechnics and good care: good rearing, good nutrition, good veterinary care an good handling. Affinity Petcare and those who act in its name strictly respect this policy when dealing with animals.

Basic principles

  • Nutritional research. This is a fundamental task for the development of new products and the improvement of the existing ones. Nutritional research allows increasing our knowledge of important nutritional principles, of the suitable nutrition levels, of new beneficial ingredients and of medical care.
  • Animal care. Every animal must have the adequate nutrition, care, comfort, protection against predators and adverse environmental factors, and the protection against illnesses and their guaranteed treatments.
  • Procedure approval. In the nutritional research projects undertaken or financed by Affinity Petcare, we revise and approve all the protocols and procedures before they are put in practice to protect animals against pain and suffering. We only authorize non invasive procedures and euthanasia is strictly forbidden.
  • Socialization. Special care is taken to ensure that the animals are correctly socialized and that they are given substantial human and animal interaction and handling.
  • Illnesses. In cases of illness, all animals receive the necessary diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, according to what the veterinary assigned by Affinity establishes. Only in those circumstances in which the animals are very ill and when, according to the ethics code of the Spanish Association of Veterinaries of Small Animals (AVEPA), euthanasia is considered the best option for the animal and it avoids unnecessary pain and/or suffering, this procedure is authorized.
