Net Zero by 2050

Affinity's Commitment

Affinity Petcare is committed to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across its value chain by 2050.

This commitment is supported by science-based near-term and long-term greenhouse gas reduction targets validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). The SBTi validation confirms that Affinity's decarbonisation targets are aligned with climate science and the transition towards a net-zero economy.

2030 targets

As part of its transition plan, Affinity has established interim targets for 2030 covering both operational emissions and value-chain emissions. Compared with a 2022 baseline, Affinity has committed to reduce absolute Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 42% by 2030 and to reduce absolute Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions from purchased goods and services, upstream and downstream transportation and distribution, and end-of-life treatment of sold products by 42% within the same timeframe. Affinity has also committed to reduce FLAG (Forest, Land and Agriculture) emissions by 30.3% by 2030 and to achieve no deforestation across its primary deforestation-linked commodities by no later than 31 December 2028.

2050 long term targets

For the longer term, Affinity has committed to reduce absolute Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 90% by 2050 compared with the 2022 baseline, to reduce relevant Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions by 90%, and to reduce FLAG emissions by 72%. These targets include FLAG emissions and removals and form part of the company's overall net-zero strategy.

Our transition Roadmap

To deliver these targets, Affinity has implemented a transition roadmap focused on the main sources of emissions across its value chain, including ingredients sourcing, packaging, logistics and manufacturing operations. Key areas of action include improving packaging circularity, increasing recycled content and recyclability, improving energy efficiency, expanding lower-carbon energy solutions, promoting sustainable sourcing practices, reducing emissions associated with transportation and distribution, addressing agricultural and land-use emissions, and engaging with suppliers to support emissions reductions throughout the value chain.

Our Progress

Affinity reports that greenhouse gas emissions have already been reduced by approximately 26% compared with the 2022 baseline and has established governance, monitoring and review processes to track progress against its climate commitments. Progress is periodically assessed, and the transition plan may be updated over time to reflect technological developments, improved methodologies, regulatory requirements and additional decarbonisation opportunities. While specific implementation measures may evolve as new solutions become available, Affinity's commitment to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 remains unchanged.
